Stairs2Hell enters its final 48 hours. Only 570 grams separate the top two teams!

8 October 2026 | standings as of 9:00 a.m.

The anniversary edition of the European Carp Fishing Championship has entered its final stage. At 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, only 570 grams separated the top two teams, while their rivals are still waiting for a fish that could bring them back into the fight for the leading positions. Novomlýnská Lake has already produced 168 qualifying carp with a total weight of 2,446 kilograms. The teams now have 48 hours and two nights left, while an expected change in the weather could strongly affect fish activity.

One hundred teams have completed 94 of the competition’s 142 hours. Several teams have already held first place since Sunday’s start, and the standings have changed after almost every important catch. Thursday morning brought more changes at the top of the leaderboard.

EKO BAITS TEAM POLAND caught a 26.35-kilogram carp during the night at peg 39 and increased its top-three total to 69.19 kilograms. At the same time, the Czech team EBRO – BLACK CARP had a total of 68.62 kilograms. The difference between the two teams is only 570 grams! BAKLED TEAM POLAND holds third place with three catches weighing a total of 57.32 kilograms. This created a gap of almost twelve kilograms behind the first two teams, but the next part of the leaderboard remains much closer. Only 4.05 kilograms separated the teams in third and ninth place. “This year’s competition is truly exceptional. The tension at the top could hardly be greater. A Czech and a Polish team are fighting for the lead, and this is exactly what we like to see. Beautiful fish are also being caught at many other pegs, so we can expect plenty of excitement right until the end,” says Petr Šurek, one of the two competition directors.

Nothing has been decided yet

Although the first two teams have moved ahead of their rivals, the other competition director, Vít Černý believes that the fight for the leading positions remains open. Only the three heaviest carp caught by each team count towards the final result. A new large fish can therefore replace the lightest carp in the team’s top three and significantly improve its total.

“Many teams still have a chance to fight for victory. We still have 48 hours of fishing ahead of us, and we are used to anything happening in that amount of time at Pálava. Several teams already have one or two carp over twenty kilograms. If they add the legendary thirty-kilogram fish, they could quickly move towards the top. In my opinion, nothing has been decided yet,” says Vít Černý.

Some teams will continue with their original plans, while others may try to change the situation by using different hookbaits or presenting them in a different way. “I believe that the carefully prepared tactics which teams brought here and have followed from the beginning will have a better chance of success than a completely new approach tested only during the final hours,” he adds.

Wind could increase fish activity

The record still stands

Most of the competition so far has taken place in sunny weather with almost no wind. However, rain and stronger winds are now expected, which could change the movement of carp in different parts of the large lake.

“So far, we have had weather that does not suit the carp very well. Sunshine and no wind are better conditions for cycling,” he says with a laugh. „That is why we are looking forward to the forecast wind and rain. Wind plays a key role on the lower part of Novomlýnská Lake. If it is as strong as the forecast suggests, it could get the carp moving again. Hopefully, we can expect more beautiful fish over twenty kilograms,” says Vít Černý.

By 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, the marshals had recorded 168 qualifying carp with a total weight of 2,446 kilograms. The average weight of one catch was 14.56 kilograms. Twenty-four carp have already weighed more than 20 kilograms, and four of them have also passed the 25-kilogram mark.

The heaviest fish of this year’s competition remains a 27.32-kilogram carp, caught by CT CARSTRADE – CHYTIL at peg 33 on Monday morning. Stairs2Hell is therefore still waiting for the first thirty-kilogram carp in its history. “A fish over thirty kilograms would be the perfect finishing touch,” adds Petr Šurek.

Stairs2Hell will finish at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, 10 October. The teams still have two nights ahead of them, and these have often produced the most important catches in previous years. The coming 48 hours on Novomlýnská Lake will therefore decide where the anniversary trophy will go!
