The tenth edition of the Stairs2Hell European Carp Fishing Championship has its winner. The final signal sounded over Novomlýnská Lake at 9 a.m. on Saturday, 10 October. The last night did not change the top three, so the anniversary trophy goes to Poland for the second year in a row. EKO BAITS TEAM POLAND, made up of Mariusz Stępień, Ernest Buć and Łukasz Grudowski, won from peg 39. Three carp weighing 26.35, 25.42 and 25.15 kilograms counted towards the team’s final result. Their total weight of 76.92 kilograms brought them not only victory but also a new Stairs2Hell record. The previous record of 74.41 kilograms had been held by the same team since 2021, when it competed under the name SONIK SPORTS & EKO BAITS TEAM POLAND.

Czech teams take the next two places

STARBAITS CZ finished second. The three heaviest carp caught by the Czech team had a total weight of 70.54 kilograms. They finished 6.38 kilograms behind the winners. Another Czech team, EBRO – BLACK CARP, took third place with a total of 68.62 kilograms. The team also moved into the lead during the week and was still only a few hundred grams behind first place on Thursday.

A record total from three carp

Although the competitors had high hopes for the final hours, the last night did not change the top three. However, one important catch moved Czech team GIANTSFISHING into fourth place. “I expected the final night to be even more dramatic. One very large fish was caught and moved a team into fourth place, but the top three did not change. The biggest surprise of this year’s competition for me was the record total weight of the winning team’s three heaviest carp. It is a great result. And although the legendary thirty-kilogram carp did not appear this year, at least we still have something to look forward to next year,” says competition director Vít Černý.

The second competition director, Petr Šurek, mainly highlights the many changes in the standings during the championship. “It was an incredible competition from beginning to end. Different teams took turns at the top of the leaderboard, many beautiful carp over twenty kilograms were caught and the tension lasted almost throughout the whole competition. This is exactly how we like Stairs2Hell,” he says.

The heaviest fish held the lead from Monday

A third victory challenges the other teams

The heaviest carp of the anniversary edition was caught by CT CARSTRADE – CHYTIL at peg 33 on Monday morning. The fish weighed 27.32 kilograms and remained the heaviest catch until the final signal. “That probably surprised me the most. The heaviest fish usually come during the final or second-to-last night. This time, however, the standard was set very high at the beginning and no one managed to beat it,” adds Petr Šurek.

During the 142 hours, a total of 270 scoring carp with a combined weight of 3,909 kilograms were caught. The average weight of one catch was 14.48 kilograms. Twenty-nine carp weighed between 20 and 25 kilograms, while another six exceeded the 25-kilogram mark. The competition is still waiting for the first carp over thirty kilograms in its history.

EKO BAITS TEAM POLAND won for the first time in 2021, added its second gold last year and defended the title this year. It has therefore become the first team to win Stairs2Hell three times.

According to both competition directors, this extraordinary result should mainly motivate the other teams. “Winning here three times is something that seemed almost impossible until recently. But I believe the other teams will now work even harder to knock EKO BAITS off the top. One important factor may be how quickly the competitors can get onto the water and as close to the fish as possible. I would say the EKO BAITS team is exceptional in this area,” says Vít Černý. “The other teams can learn from how well the winners were prepared and from the small details they handled differently. I am sure that no one will make it easy for them next year,” concludes Petr Šurek.

The tenth edition therefore ends with a new record, a third victory for the Polish team and two Czech teams on the podium. However, one major challenge remains. The giants of Novomlýnská Lake weighing more than thirty kilograms are still hiding beneath the surface. It is now clear that they will wait for their challenger until at least the next edition of Stairs2Hell.
